Meet our Staff Member

Sammantha Megaw

Executive Director & Founder

From an early age, Sammantha Megaw has been driven by a profound passion for advocacy, particularly in the realm of mental health.

Background: Sammantha's academic journey laid the foundation for her unwavering commitment to advocacy. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Human Services and a certification in nonprofit management, she embarked on a mission to make a difference in the lives of those who have been historically marginalized.

Founding Story & Overcoming Challenges: Sammantha's journey is deeply personal. From a young age, she grappled with the harsh realities of mental illness. It began with the suppression of her mother's depression, which eventually led to her mother's institutionalization when Sammantha was just 14 years old. A decade later, her own struggles with life's overwhelming demands, including juggling undergraduate studies, parenthood, marriage, and the loss of multiple father figures, led her to her own institutional stay. These experiences have given her unique insights into the importance of mental health advocacy, even in the face of stigma within her own communities, from her upbringing in a Black household to her journey within the LGBT community.

Contact Information: For inquiries or collaboration, you can reach out to Sammantha Megaw at Sammantha@SWAdvocacy.org.
